HOLIDAY GREETINGS bound for troops in Iraq or Afghanistan are delivered by the Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club to the post office on Dec. 1st.  Dean Grose, President (right) is joined by Sean Payne and Allen McLean, president elect. A total of 40 boxes were prepared and shipped as part of Operation Freedom Rest.

The Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club partnered with the Rotary 5320 District to make Christmas brighter for 25 local teens thru “We Care” in Los Alamitos, a shelter which provides services for teens and families experiencing difficult times in their lives.

Sean Payne, who heads the Rotary Foundation Committee for the local club, applied to the District for matching grant funds and working with Circuit City in Rossmoor, was able to purchase 25 individual Ipod music players. Working with the staff at We Care, a group of boys and girls ranging in age from 13 to 18 years were identified.

Club members donated the popular music devices on Dec. 20 to Diane Hassell, a Board Member at We Care, along with Terry Holbrook and Rob Lowenberg who are case managers, and Adrian Govea.  “We’ll see that these get to our families in time for a very Merry Christmas,” Ms. Hassell said.

Making the presentation were Payne, club president Dean Grose, and Board members George Young and Allen McLean.  During the past year, the local service organization has designated more than $25,000 in philanthropy support for local agencies.  “Rotary offers local business and civic leaders an opportunity to provide ‘Service Above Self’,” Grose noted. “We have 36 members and are actively involved with our community, providing manpower and resources in a program called ‘Rotary Shares’.”
