HOLIDAY GREETINGS bound for troops in Iraq or Afghanistan are delivered by the Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club to the post office on Dec. 1st. Dean Grose, President (right) is joined by Sean Payne and Allen McLean, president elect. A total of 40 boxes were prepared and shipped as part of Operation Freedom Rest.

The Los
Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club partnered with the Rotary 5320 District to make
Christmas brighter for 25 local teens thru “We Care” in Los Alamitos, a
shelter which provides services for teens and families experiencing difficult
times in their lives.
Sean
Payne, who heads the Rotary Foundation Committee for the local club, applied to
the District for matching grant funds and working with
Club
members donated the popular music devices on Dec. 20 to Diane Hassell, a Board
Member at We Care, along with Terry Holbrook and Rob Lowenberg who are case
managers, and Adrian Govea. “We’ll
see that these get to our families in time for a very Merry Christmas,” Ms.
Hassell said.
Making
the presentation were Payne, club president Dean Grose, and Board members George
Young and Allen McLean. During the
past year, the local service organization has designated more than $25,000 in
philanthropy support for local agencies. “Rotary
offers local business and civic leaders an opportunity to provide ‘Service
Above Self’,” Grose noted. “We have 36 members and are actively involved
with our community, providing manpower and resources in a program called
‘Rotary Shares’.”

Part of the wheelchair race entrants take their place at the starting line at the 27th annual "Race on the Base" on Feb. 23 at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. Sponsored by the City of Los Alamitos, the event benefits the U.S. Olympic Water Polo Pool at the Base. |
Winners! Council member Catherine Driscoll and Rotarian Art Gomez present cash awards to the winners in the 10K Wheelchair Competition. 1st Place went to Ray Stewart, Downey, with a time of 27:01 minutes; 2nd Place was Edwin Figueroa of Los Angeles, time 29:56; and 3rd Place went to Geoffrey Erickson of Wilmington, with a time of 35:44 minutes. |
Rotarians Gregg Pericich, Sean Payne, Dixie & Jeff Fried, Blair Pietrini, Dick Ramseyer ,Allen McLean, Gilbert Coronado, Dean & Wendy Grose, Laura Herzog, Tom & Hattie Stretz , George Young , Chuck Woodfin , Bob Morgan, Theresa Murphy, Carol Hart all helped register the nearly 2,100 runners for the annual "Race on the Base" on Feb. 23 at the Joint Forces Training Base.
